    In the span of five days, our office received six calls from clients regarding an “invoice” received from what appeared to be the Trademark Office.  This was unusual, especially given that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office does not send invoices to the owners of trademark applications and trademark registrations.

    In the wake of the changes brought by the America Invents Act, many looked forward to a renewal of activity before the Board at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (now the Patent Trial and Appeal Board). New proceedings are now available intended to promote better and sounder patents, and to offer the public a less expensive and more rapid basis for challenging wrongly issued patents that might otherwise be a drag on the market or technology.
